Abstract:
The discussion focuses on the conceptual metaphor as a means of interpreting the people-world relations. The author argues that metaphoric interpretation is determined by the nature of the metaphor, its inner structure and three types of interpretation as a man’s cognitive activity: selective, classifying, and evaluative. The interaction of these factors is illustrated by the analysis of the space conceptual metaphor and its language representations.
