Abstract: 
This work relates to the series of the articles devoted to the concept of under-standing / misunderstanding in A.P. Chekhov’s plays. The article analyses the lexeme “understand” in A.P. Chekhov’s drama texts which is considered to be a central means of expressing understanding / misunderstanding by the characters. It also describes the most frequent and important forms of expressing the concept of understanding in language.
