Abstract:
The author analyses the role of cognition in forming the adjectival worldview and the role of English adjectives as the “qualitative stratum of reality” in the cognitive process and in the process of forming adjectival worldview. The author discusses the adjectival worldview as а part of the linguistic worldview that gives qualitative characteristics of the world. The author defines the role of adjectives in fixing the results of cognition and their role in forming the attributive “portrait” of the word. A hypothesis that adjectives may be called “the fourth spatial measuring” of the world is put forward.
