COGNITIVE FOUNDATIONS OF THE PART-OF-SPEECH THEORY (CATEGORY STATUS OF RELATIVE ADJECTIVES)

Abstract: 
Cognitive approach to the part-of-speech theory is in the focus of study in this article because it concerns also the status of relative adjectives. They have been viewed differently by many scholars because of their derived character, denotative value, disability to grade, to combine with intensifiers, to function as predicatives, etc. The prototypical character of the part-of-speech category permits to define the place of the relative adjectives in the category of adjectives due to their predicate semantics despite the absence of many adjectival features.
