Abstract: 
The paper examines the theoretical bases of the cognitive and communicative re-search in the field of thematic and rhematic division of a composite sentence. The problems of cognition and communication, information processing, the correlation of theme and rheme / “given” and “new” are addressed in connection with a composite sentence.
