Abstract:
The article deals with analyzing the development of the main tendencies within the framework of functional linguistics. Ways of singling out function as the basic term of present-day linguistics are highlighted. The author lays emphasis upon the possible perspectives of functional linguistics alongside with the development of cognition and discourse paradigm. Links of functionalism with anthropocentricity, explanation and expansion within present-day Linguistics have been mentioned as well. Prof. N.A. Kobrina’s contribution to development of cognitive and discourse paradigm in Linguistics has been pinpointed.
