Abstract
The article dwells upon the concept of TIME realized in the language of English and Scottish popular ballad. Conceptual metaphor stands to be the main model in this categorization. Textual analysis shows how closely spatial and temporal notions are incorporated in the folk language. Main metaphorical models representing time in ballad texts are: TIME IS LANDSCAPE, TIME IS A CONTAINER, TIME IS A MOVING POINT and TIME IS AN ACTING FORCE.
