Abstract
Formally the vocabulary of the German language consists of two lexico-semantic branches: the neutral and emotive. Their implementation in the speech has its own characteristics, determined by the specifics of the operation. When a neutral vocabulary name enters a modern literary text, it can function as emotive vocabulary of the language, whose names enter, express or describe emotions. The resulting neutral associates of emotive language reflect not only the emerging knowledge about emotions, but also evaluative attitude to the environment and the sacred world.
