Abstract
This article focuses upon two aspects of interpretation. It regards interpretation as a unique universal cognitive need and ability and as a specific cognitive level which is hierarchically highest in the system of cognitive levels of knowledge configuration. This enables to track the evolution of language and cognition from collective knowledge peculiar to systemic level of language to largely individual knowledge characteristic of language functioning.
