COGNITIVE BASIS OF USING PHRASEOLOGISMS IN DISCOURSE

Abstract: 
The paper elaborates the notion of phraseological creativity in relation to macro-metaphorical conceptual models – the deep conceptual structures that underlie phraseological content. It is shown that the models in question serve as cognitive mechanisms which help to adapt phraseologisms structurally and semantically to the pragmatic aims to be fulfilled in the process of forming a discourse. They predetermine ways, extent and quality of discursive modifications of phraseologisms.
