Abstract:
The paper considers the principles of conceptualization and representation of cognitive processes in modern English. Conceptual structures underlying the semantics of English words denoting mental activity and cognition are viewed as frames constituting a part of a more general conceptual structure – a system of frames describing “action” and “activity” in the language. The role of conceptual oppositions in the frame construal is considered. The frame elaborated seems to provide a more consistent classification of English words describing cognition.
