Abstract:
The mechanisms of linguistic cognition are described on the material of indoeuropean onyms. The terms of cognitive science: cognition, mentality, social and cultural aspects of language units are discussed. Language develops in ontogenesis as a result of relations between human socio-cognitive capacities and language use. The study demonstrated the process of onyms formation realized not only on the basis of linguistic expierence but socio-cultural and cross-linguistic basis as well. Producing and understanding are connected with people's ability to predict themselves and the partners.
