Abstract:
The article analyses factors which determine the potential of the conceptual metaphor as a means of interpreting the world and the world knowledge. The author suggests that these factors are the nature of the metaphor, its inner structure and three types of interpretation as a man's cognitive activity: selective, classifying, and evaluative. The interaction of these factors is illustrated by the analysis of the interpretative potential of the space conceptual metaphor and its language representations.
