Abstract:
The article introduces the results of a study of the impact of the Russian accent on the integration prospects into the host German community. It was assumed that Russian immigrants who do not have a well-developed phonetic-phonological competence and speak with a strong Russian accent can face accent-based discrimination in Germany. In this study the authors conducted a survey among Russian immigrants living in Germany. The analysis of the materials concerning the specifics of studying the German language and the frequency of its use, the reasons for immigration as well as the duration of stay in Germany supports the abovementioned assumption. The significance of the study also lies in the assessment of the aforementioned indicators which makes it possible to predict the success of overcoming the foreign accent as a result of interference at the phonetic-phonological level.
