Abstract: The present research considers the explication of the concept of HAPPINESS in media texts contained in the American Corpus of Contemporary American English. It is concluded that in the view of the Americans, HAPPINESS is real and achievable, it lies in such things as family, caring for others, creative activity and does not depend on the amount of money. The research also reveals that happiness is not achieved by collective efforts, but the search for it begins within each person.
