Abstract:  The article tackles the principal features of the cognitive metaphor ‘WAR is GAME’ in the discourse of the British newspapers of the mid-XIXth century. The paper describes verbal options of metaphorical transfer of the notion ‘game’ to the events of the Crimean war politics. Much attention is paid the types of game, which represent the attitude of the British elite to the conflict analysed.
