Abstract:  Due to insufficient research of sign language as an autonomously functioning semiotic system of conceptualization, the article states the key problems to be urgently regarded. These are primarily the issues of terminological differentiation between sign language and verbal language, as well as understanding the nature of sign language, the characteristic features of its organization, and the potential of sign conceptualization of the world by both the national sign language and its regional variants.
