Abstract
The article examines the linguistic means which represent HAPPINESS concept in the English proverbs and sayings. The conclusion is made that for English speakers, happiness is often unattainable in the real world; happiness is not associated with material benefits; happiness is achievable only if a person makes every effort for self-development and self-improvement.
