NO LAUGHING MATTER

In this article we present the analysis of English and Spanish set phrases with “laugh / smile” as a key element, and an attempt to model, on the one hand, the mechanisms underlying the phrases in question, and on the other hand - the imagery typical of native speakers. The phrases under analysis are not numerous, but bright and various in the types of associative ties - metaphor, metonymy, analogy and others.
