Abstract:
The article deals with the study of the process of formation of semantics of lexicalized plural nouns on the basis of the cognitive metonymical model “contents - container” in English and Russian. The process of lexicalization is modeled relying on the principal assumptions of the modern cognitive theories. The author lays special emphasis on the fact that the possibility for plural nouns to acquire their own lexical meanings is provided by the interpretative activity of human thought.
