Abstract: The article analyses the illocutive component of the speech act in the cognitive aspect. The points of view of foreign and domestic linguists regarding the processes of formation and implementation of an illocutive act are given. Its mental bases and the role of illocutive knowledge in the formation of its surface structure are revealed. It is concluded that the language means used by the speaker in the speech act perform a deictic function in relation to the semantic components of its illocutive component.
