COGNITIVE INVARIANT MODEL FOR REPRESENTATION OF THE STRUCTURE OF A POLYSEMOUS WORD

COGNITIVE INVARIANT MODEL FOR REPRESENTATION OF THE STRUCTURE OF A POLYSEMOUS WORD

Author:  Pesina Svetlana A.

Abstract
We have come up with a hypothesis of a polysemous word integrity and defined a lexical invariant of the English polysemous word “arm” with the use of the invariant-component method. The lexical invariant is defined as a set of basic components that form the semantic core of the word. The representation of the semantic structure of words in the form of lexical invariants has a number of advantages over the “list theory”, it can significantly complement the theory of “general meaning”.
