Abstract:  The article analyses cognitive foundations of egocentric categorization of space in the German language. On the basis of the developed typology of space (Ego space, private and social spaces) it has been proved that spatial categorization in language performs both the function of localization and the function of differentiation. On the basis of the German language materials it has been revealed that egocentric categorization of space as a container is carried out due to profiling boundaries (physical boundaries, interpersonal boundaries, social boundaries) between models of space.
