Abstract: The article uses the example of phraseological metathesis to reveal some technological aspects of constructing an etymological paraphrase for an educational dictionary. The article shows the possibilities of using the material of cultural commentaries of the “Big phraseological dictionary of the Russian language” edited by V.N. Telia and other authoritative phraseographic sources for this purpose. Interpretive and text-organizing methods of educational etymologization of phraseological metatheses are considered in detail. Examples of dictionary entries from various author's phraseographic projects are given.
