MYTHOLOGICAL REPRESENTATIONS IN ASTRONOMICAL PHENOMENA IN THE OLD GERMANIC WORLDVIEW (ON THE BASIS OF A SNAKE IMAGE)

Author:  Manerko L.A., Chulkova E.A.

Abstract:  The article describes mythological representations, which are depicted on the basis of metaphorization of the astronomical phenomena such as aurorae and comets as a snake or dragon in the Germanic world image. The serpents were not discriminated by Old Germans and considered to form a semantic unity. The material of the paper is based on the texts of Old English and Old Icelandic languages.
