Abstract: The paper deals with singling out metaphors in semantic structure of Russian and English proverbs about love. The analysis is conveyed by means of conceptual metaphor and thematic role of the qualitative (first proposed by the author in her doctorate paper), which represents the quality of the object as a combination of the second actant and the semantics of the proverbial predicate.
