CULTURAL INFORMATION IN A DETECTIVE NOVEL: ON THE EXAMPLE OF A. CHRISTIE’S “CROOKED HOUSE”

CULTURAL INFORMATION IN A DETECTIVE NOVEL: ON THE EXAMPLE OF A. CHRISTIE’S “CROOKED HOUSE”

Author:  Oparina E.O.

Abstract:  The article analyzes the ways of presentation of cultural information in a classic English detective story. The research carried out shows that linguistic and text units actualizing the presentation of the concept 'English vs. non-English' in the text can be decoded via associations with the prescriptions of the English culture explicitly expressed in the idioms and proverbs, which makes it necessary for the reader to have cultural and language competence.
