Abstract: 
The paper investigates grammatical phraseological units in Russian academic style, their language-specific distinctions, cognitive and communicative functions and characteristics. Special attention is paid to their ability to profile relative and interpretative semantics, and to their idiomaticity and cross-linguistic asymmetry.
