Abstract: The subject of this article is a discussion of theoretical problems of functional semantics, as well as heuristic methods of representing linguistic meanings. The author considers the main assumptions of modern linguistic semantics taking into account a heuristic model known as the semantic triangle. The author shows the limitations of this model, pondering on an expanded connective concept of semantic function and, above all, the role of socio-cultural and pragmatic factors of speech activity.
