LANGUAGE SIGN ACQUIRING CULTURAL MEANINGS

Abstract:  Being a case study of the Russian phrase bez ruk, bez nog (literally, “without arms, without legs”) denoting, among other things, heavy injuries, ugliness, incapacitation, and inanimateness, the paper argues that movement of the language sign in different spheres, along with its development, is inherently connected to the semiotisation of cultural meanings, undergoing stages of evolution and acquiring integrity.
