LEXICAL AND GRAMMATICAL CHANGES AND ORIENTATIONAL METAPHORS IN RUSSIAN IDIOMS WITH THE CONSTITUENT GLAZ/GLAZA ‘EYE/EYES’

Abstract:  The paper deals with lexical and semantic changes of Russian idioms with the constituent glaz/glaza ‘eye/eyes’ and the underlying orientational metaphors. Focusing metaphor materialization and formation of new metaphors, it studies phraseological paronymy that may lead to mutual assimilation and affinity of idioms whose components, structure, and underlying metaphors are somewhat similar but not identical.
