Abstract: The paper focuses on particularities of verbalization of natural history phenomena in two Anglo-Saxon treatises: Ælfric’s “De anno temporibus” and Byrhtferth’s “Manual”, dating from late 10th - early 11th c. We claim that the eclectic character of the texts is accounted for by the presence of elements of three worldviews: the scientific, the biblical and the naive one.
