UNIQUENESS AND TYPICALITY IN THE HETEROSEMIOTIC UNITY OF IMAGE AND TEXT: RESEARCH METHOD AND PROCEDURE

Abstract:  The study describes the research method and procedural analysis of the heterosemiotic unity integrating image and text with the aim of identifying its uniqueness and typicality features. To achieve the task, we considered the common for both semiotic systems construal mechanism (focusing) traced in distinct parameters and their groups. With the diverse types of book pages serving as the unity samples we defined the construal parameters, annotated the samples and revealed the construal factors and the uniqueness index of each sample. This method will be applied for further experimental analysis which will specify the interpretation techniques the readers adopt to process heterosemiotic unities of image and text.
